Our colleagues at the American Heart Association shared this important update:
Last year, the Indiana legislature passed a $2 per pack tax increase on cigarettes, as well as an equivalent increase on other tobacco products. A recently released report reveals that cigarette pack sales have dropped by 13.8% and e-cigarette sales by an estimated 8.3% since the tax went into effect.
The tax increase generated an estimated $170.4 million in added tobacco tax revenue between July and December of 2025. Additionally, the report shows no evidence of increased sales in border states due to higher costs in Indiana.
